Yesterday, I returned home real beat, but overjoyed. I couldn't really sleep. All the events of the week have made me high... and really high. I mean, I probably took the wrong medicine, or people may even suspect me of taking drugs. Or probably it is too much of chocolate. Did you know that taking chocolates help you to relax? Chocolate has a chemical that releases this substance into your brain or something. So when you are really stressed out, try eating a small bar of chocolate (that's if you are weight cautious of something). It really helps. Mr De Souza did that to our class on 2 occassions.
Tonight is the BIG night that our class has been practicing the script and play for. DRAMA NIGHT. Anyway, I shall start with the morning (: We were asked to go to the K S Chee Theatre. A surprise - to watch the Movie
Akeelah and the Bee. A cool and great movie about this girl from Crenshaw Middle School called Akeelah ( as you might have already guessed) She has a passion for spelling. Like she can spell all those really big words that most of us do not understand. Her Dad plays a very important roll in her love for spelling although he was shot dead when coming home from work when she was just 6. It is sprinkled with humour and is a really touching story. Scoring perfect always for her spelling test without learning, she is often teased by her peers as the 'geek'.
Her teacher was handing out her papers, glances at her paper and asks " Did you study for the test?"
"No."
"See me after class."
Her journey starts when her English Teacher recommends her to take part in the annual Crenshaw Middle School Spelling Bee. There, she breezes through all the words and wins that title. Her principal then propose that she take the state bee to make up for the missing attendance that she has. Dr Larabee thinks that she has the potential to win at the regional bee. On her first attempt to ask Dr Larabee for help as her coach, she fails cause of her attitude. It ends off with her scolding him some really long words. As you may have guessed, it is the high class way of scolding people.
She goes to the competition, meeting a boy named Javier, who offers his help to her, seeing that this was her first time. They become good friends and Akeelah does fairly well but barely made it. Her mother came, seething with rage as Akeelah had gone for the spelling bee withou her conscent. Her mother has been really down and so Akeelah signed with her Dad's name. To stall time for her, good-natured Javier, did this:
1. He walked up to the mike as slow as he could
2. asked for the definition of the word 5 times
3. asked for the word to be used in a sentence
4. then tried asking for it in another sentence ( but he was only allowed one)
5. (funniest) he requested for the word to be put into a song
She spelled one word wrongly, but as the other contestant got disqualified for cheating. The 3 people who makes it through the state bee are: Javier, Dylan and Akeelah. Javier is a cherrful guy who never fails to make people smile with his silly acts. He actually danced like a monkey when he got the word right. And asked for the definition of XYLEM even though he knew the word. "They thought they had me on" He finished of 13th in the previous year's regional bee. (: Dylan on the other hand is bent on winning the spelling bee. Akeelah finds out that he has won the 2nd place twice in a row at the national bee and this is his last year.
The friendship between Javier and Akeelah blossoms and she attends his Birthday Party. *kiss* and Akeelah almost beat Dylan in a Scrabble Game, but not quite.
